Dental Services

Dental health is a very important part of your pet's health. Dental problems can cause and even be caused by other health problems. At BVL Veterinary Hospital we recommend an annual dental exam to check for early signs of a more serious problem and to ensure your pet's mouth is healthy.

Each dental procedure includes:

Comprehensive Blood Work

A blood panel is ran prior to your pet’s procedure to ensure it is safe for your pet to undergo anesthesia.

IV Catheter, Fluids and Anesthesia Monitoring

Any procedure that requires general anesthesia , requires an intravenous (IV) catheter to ensure the fast delivery of drugs and medications into the body.

Fluids help to hydrate your pet both before and after the surgery and help to flush the drugs out of its body.

All of our sedation and anesthetic procedures are closely monitored for heart rate, EKG, blood pressure, breathing rate, O2 and CO2 using monitoring equipment and a trained anesthetic technician.

Dental Radiographs:

Dental radiographs can only be done under sedation/anesthesia so this is the perfect opportunity and will give our dental team the information needed to fully assess your pet’s dental health and identify any potential problems early.

Tooth Scaling and Polishing:

Our trained dental technicians use a hand and water-cooled ultrasonic scaler to remove plaque and calculus buildup from the teeth and then polish them up to protect the tooth surface. The gums are cleaned thoroughly to remove the bacteria that hide beneath the gum line and cause that bad breath!

Follow up Visit:

We want to ensure your pets feel great after their dental procedures, so a follow up visit is included if any additional concerns need to be addressed.
